Interest rates crash. The Dow dives! But the band plays on!
Join dapper and flapper friends of the Chicago Art Deco Society at Katerina's, in the city of Chicago for an evening of food and drinks, quality conversation, and music from the Great Depression -- inspired by the Great Recession!
Young jazz singer, Petra Van Nuis has "…an attractive girlish voice in the vein of Blossom Dearie… At once alluring and robust... her tone alternates between delicate playfulness and declarative strength, perfectly suiting the hot jazz."
At the start of the Great Recession in September 2008, Petra's Recession Seven, a Chicago-style early swing/trad jazz band was born at Chicago's legendary Green Mill. This ensemble features an all-star line up of internationally known Chicago veterans including trombonist Russ Phillips, and trumpeter Bob Ojeda. The American Rag, in a review of the band's 2011 on-location recording Live in Chicago praises "a killer of a band that grabs your attention and doesn't give it back until they are finished playing."

Petra and her band will join us for our "early set" at 6:30 with her "hot" quintet, and then continue on with the entire seven piece group starting at 8:00. You are welcome to stay the rest of the evening at no additional cover charge.
Katerina's, "an eclectic club with its soul in the arts" is a noted hot spot and gathering place for the best of jazz, blues, and world music Chicago has to offer.
